CHOOSING AND USING NAIL POLISH

Nail polishes, enamels or varnishes (all chemically similar) need not necessarily match you lips, despite the prevalence of co-ordinated ranges - try a contrast. Vibrant reds, pale ivories and pastels draw attention to nails, so unless they are in splendid shape, stick to medium-toned pinks and corals. Apricots, pinks and orangey reds enhance a tan.

For party occasions have fun painting spots, strips and zig-zags. Choose a base colour, leave it to dry, and use a fine eyeliner brush to paint your pattern. For extra sparkle, some manicurists will set acrylic nails with ‘diamonds’. Hypoallergenic varnishes should be used if you skin reacts against other types.
